The Driving Test

You must be 17 years old to drive and hold a valid, provisional driving licence. The driving test consists of a theory test and a practical test. You must pass your theory test before you can apply to take your practical driving test.

The Theory Test consists of two sections - multiple choice questions and hazard perception, and you must pass both parts. Have a go at some online practice tests.

The Practical Test consists of 5 parts - an eyesight check, 'show me, tell me' vehicle safety questions, general driving ability, reversing your vehicle, and independent driving where you'll drive for about 20 minutes either following directions from a sat nav or from road signs. More information on the practical test.
